Following a vision of transforming the traditional demarcation based and graphic driven Cadastre to a Coordinate Based Cadastre (CBC), the Director General (DG) of the Survey of Israel introduced at the end of 2003 a goal to take practical measures in order to pave the way towards a CBC in Israel.

The small EDM network at Kfar-Hanassi was established across the Dead Sea Rift (DSR) in the northern part of Israel, where displacements of several millimeters per year between the Sinai sub-plate and the Arabian plate are expected.

The development of the permanent GPS network in Israel has been initiated as an ultimate infrastructure for geodetic-geodynamic research. Following its establishment, the network which consists of 19 permanent stations, became a commonly used, multi-purpose measurement system, supporting research as well as geodetic control, cadastral, photogrammetric, engineering, topographic, GIS and mapping tasks.

The land registration method in Israel is based on the Torrens principles. The state (through the services of the Survey of Israel, SOI) is responsible for the definition of the land parcel boundaries as registered in the Land Registry Office.

The Survey of Israel (SOI) Heritage web-site consists of articles, documents, interviews, maps and photos that all deal with the history of the SOI. The agency was founded in 1920, when the British Survey Department (SOP – Survey of Palestine) was established.

In the year 2006, the Survey of Israel (SOI) published a tender for converting sixty cadastral blocks, bounded to the Israeli seashores, to digital cadastre.

The Survey of Israel (SOI) has embarked upon an ambitious project to modernize its cadastre system and calculate precise coordinates for every parcel corner.
